Sanjay K. Reddy, M.D., spoke with Spectrum 13 News in a live interview to discuss the importance of the prompt evaluation of alarming symptoms, such as rectal bleeding in those under 50, as well as the importance of updated colon cancer screening guidelines, beginning at the age of 45.

Dr. Reddy shared what warning signs patients and family members should be aware of that could indicate something more serious.

“I think the message that we will often share is watching out for alarm signs. And I think that is the other side of the coin compared to screenings, so someone might have a change in their normal bowel routine at any age. Patients might see blood in their stool, patients might lose weight unexpectedly or have discomfort whereas usually they wouldn’t have to think about their diet or their bowel habits”
