Read below for Dr. Straker’s personal letter to patients:

Dear Patients,

After 36 years of practicing medicine, I have decided to retire and pursue other interests. It has been a privilege to care for each and every patient. I feel humbled to have been afforded this opportunity to have a vocation that I loved each and every day. I never viewed my career in medicine as work. I have been privileged to see many advances in the field of medicine over the past 40 years. Technology has changed medicine, both for the good and bad, and it will be interesting to watch from a distance how it continues to change the course of how medicine is practiced.

Digestive Disease Consultants (DDC) has been a premier practice of Gastroenterology in the Central Florida area for close to 30 years. I feel confident that I leave my patients in good hands with my five very capable partners, excellent staff, and leadership team.

My wife and I will be moving to the Blue Ridge Mountains and leaving Central Florida that has been home for the past 30 years. We will be closer to our daughter who is working on her Master’s Degree and a full-time ED trauma nurse. Our son is in his second year of a surgery residency at U. Penn. We look forward to hiking, traveling, mission work and volunteering in our local community. We wish everyone a healthy future!

With gratitude,

Richard James Straker II MD
